Coffee Beanery Impresses with Flavored Coffee

Coffee Beanery variety sample box

Disclosure: I was gifted a box (a very cool, reusable, storage box) of flavored coffee varieties as a thank you for a piece I did on Tasting Table: Best Coffee Shops in the U.S. Coffee Beanery also shared its expertise with me on another piece regarding making iced coffee. There was no obligation for this write-up but between the generosity and great coffee, I wanted to highlight this company.

Started by JoAnne and Julius Shaw, Coffee Beanery opened its doors in the mid to late 70s selling specialty coffee. It became so successful that it now has more than 100 locations, plus an additional 20 locations internationally. Coffee beans are hand selected and are roasted, flavored, and packaged in their Flushing, Michigan facility, where headquarters, production, warehouse, and distribution are also located.

Coffee Beanery uses high-quality Arabica beans that are sourced from only the best trees – the top 3%. The coffee shop is most known for its flavored coffees, featuring more than 40 varieties, including amaretto, banana nut, cherry vanilla, chocolate peanut butter, and pumpkin spice to name but a few.

It’s really no wonder why Coffee Beanery is such a successful company – great product, expert know-how, and gracious customer support. As of this writing, I’ve tried the majority of sample coffees I received. I’m partial to black coffee, so that’s how I drank them initially.

Hazelnut is my top favorite. So if you like hazelnut coffee, I’d try this one. It’s bright, smooth, and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised with buttered rum and crème brulee, neither of which I’m familiar with. Other delicious flavors I’ve had so far and would definitely get again include vanilla macadamia nut, blueberry (bright, smooth, tasty), Sumatra (if you like dark roast), and chocolate raspberry.

A few were disappointing due to a heavy, chemical aftertaste, but this was offset with the addition of heavy cream. The chocolate marshmallow, for instance, smelled amazing, tasted great, and then I was left with an off-putting aftertaste. A few others, French vanilla, Hawaiin coconut, French toast, and dark chocolate almond had a little bit of an aftertaste as well, but just about disappeared with the addition of heavy cream.

I had a few of them as iced coffee, too, and enjoyed all of them with cream, particularly French vanilla and dark chocolate almond.

But what’s really cool is you can choose your own sample box of 10, 20, or 30 one-pot coffee packets. Talk about customization. Find the ones you like and stock up.

There’s no shortage of coffee options on the market and if you’re a coffee fan like I am and enjoy trying new roasts, flavors, and blends, that’s a good thing.

More coffee? Of course!
